This I Know – Week 6 BONUS

I Will Remember (pages 207-243)
Psalm 77:11-12; Deut. 6:10-12; Joshua 3-4; Psalm 78:11-13

We have a bonus episode to talk through two additional questions about this final chapter.

God literally asked the Israelites to build an ebeneezer to remember. There are literal things in my life that I do to remember God working. Breanne gave me a gold chicken head after our trip to Haiti and it reminds me to pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti, it reminds me of stories from Haiti, and lessons God taught me there.
So one thing I do is have tangible things out to remember. Remembering is an action word – to meditate, mention, act on.

What do you do to remember what God has done in your life?

Breanne – Decor in my house and clothing items. I also am a sticker/souvenir collector so I collect things from experiences. I could become an experiential hoarder from all my momentos but I am married to someone that doesn’t really believe in souvenirs. I have gotten away from that but looking at those things helps me remember. I went to Ecuador and have sand from the beach where 5 missionaries were murdered. It is one of my most prized possessions because of what it reminds me of. I also really use pictures to remember. I take lots of pictures of many things to remind me. Documenting so that I can trigger my mind to go back to that experience and thought.

Julie – Pictures especially with grandkids and they love to look at them. If it is a truth or fact I try to memorize. But I really write things down to help me remember. When we tell someone else, then it solidifies it in our brain even more. Read. Write. Share.

Lisa – Tell the story. Use that as a reminder – to connect those dots in my head but then to say it out loud to connect it more.

What characteristic of God that you want to bring into the season God has you in right now?

Julie – God is all knowing and ever present with me. In this unknown season this is so good to remember.

Lisa – Over-Capable! He is overqualified and overcapable. Trust God because he is abundant. Especially when I get to speak into someone else’s story to have the first words out of my mouth not to fix it but to point them to God. Eph 3:20 – now to him…..

Lauren – At a retreat we heard Priscilla speak on this verse and it was so memorable. And this is Marty Ellis’ verse – that is what this reminds me of.

Breanne – He is a promise keeper. When we talk about peace I think this is often what is missing in these unknown situations. Cease striving is peace embodied – Phil 4 it says 2x that peace is something he gives and something that He is. This is a promise he said he would keep. When I am not feeling peace – and I am in a downward spiral – and I am stuck in different places – and it feels cold and not epignosis – I can see as an indicator that something is wrong in the way I am handling this moment. Maybe I am being my own cornerstone. Maybe I am filling in this gap wrong. Like the squirrel story last week. I redirect my course to get on the right path in order to see him show up to have the peace that He has promised.
